THE CADMIUM-URANIUM PHASE DIAGRAM

Journal Article · · Trans. Met. Soc. AIME
OSTI ID:4836821

The cadmium--uranium system was studied by thermal, metallographic, x- ray and sampling techniques; special emphasis was placed on the establishment of the liquidus lines. The single intermetallic phase, identifled as the compound UCd/sub 11/, melts peritectically at 473 deg C to form alpha uranium and melt containing 2.5 wt.% uranium. The cadmium-rich eutectic (0.07 wt.% uranium) freezes at 320.6 deg C. Solid solubilities in uranium and cadmium appear to be negligible. Between 473 deg C and 600 deg C the liquidus line is retrograde. (auth)
