CHEMICAL EUROPIUM SEPARATION FROM THE RARE EARTH ELEMENTS (in German)

A method for Eu separation from the rare earth elements wss worked out. The method depends on the small solubility of EuSO/sub 4/ in comparison with the sulfates of the trivalent lanthanides. The extensively reduced sensitivity of Eu/ sup 2+/ in the crystal lattice to oxidizing media in comparison with Eu/sup 3+/ salts in the dissolved state was used in this method. The method can be used advantageously in the radiochemical isolation of Eu isotopes from fission product mixtures. The high chemical yield and good reproducibility, as well as the simplicity and speed, are particular advantages of this method. (J.S.R.)
