THE SELF-DIFFUSION OF ALPHA-URANIUM

Journal Article · · J. Nuclear Materials
The self-diffusion coefficient of alpha-uranium was measured as a function of crystallographic direction at 640 deg C, using the decrease in surface activity method. The average of two measurements made in each direction are: DSTA/sub 100/! = 1.8 x 10/sup -14/ cm/sup 2/sec,D/STAsub 010/! = 0.72 x 10/ sup cm//sec, and D/STA001!/ = 0.66 x 10/sup -14/ cm/sup 2/ sec/ The anisotropy in diffusion is not nearly so large as was anticipated.
