MASS DISCRIMINATION WITH PLASTIC SCINTILLATORS

Journal Article · · Nuclear Instr. & Methods
Mass discrimination of protons, deuterons, and tritons is shown to be possible from 8 to 50 Mev, by obtaining a suitable product of the outputs of dE/ dx and E plastic scintillation detectors in a counter telescope. The non-linear energy response of the scintillator NE102 is taken into account in the calculation of the function that gives optimum mass discrimination over this energy range. A transistor circuit that performs the computation of this function is described, together with its characteristics and performance. (auth)
