IMPROVEMENTS IN AND RELATING TO MEASURING SYSTEMS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4805377
A radiometric thickness measuring device for continuous measurement of a moving material, e.g., cigarette rod, is designed so that the flutter effect due to the movement of the material is greatly reduced. The device comprises an elongated structure having an aperture along its longitudinal sxis perpendicular to the first aperture for radiation absorbance measurements. The detector side of the second aperture is partly blocked so that radiation bypassing the moving material is prevented from reaching the detector. Thus, the signal variation due to material movement may be reduced from 5 to 0.5%. (D.L.C.)
