Radioactive isotopes were identified in deposits from fall-out from nuclear weapon tests by using BETA absorption curves and gamma spectra. Beta absorption curves are given for Ru/sup 106/ + Cs/sup 137/ for low energies (0- 20 mg/cm/sup 2/ absorber thickness) and medium energies (0-500 mg/cm/sup 2/ absorber thickness) and of the alkaline earth group (0-360 mg/cm/sup 2/ absorber thickness). Gamma spectrum of a preparation with Na/sup 22/, Co/sup 60/, Cs/sup 137/ , and Rh/sup 106/ is also given. Ex plosion data from Russian experiments in the Novaya Semlya area, October 1958, were identified in November 1958. In August 1959 Ce/sup 144/ Pm/sup 147/ Nb/sup 95/ Rh/sup 106/ Ru/sup 103/ Cs/sup and Zr/sup 95/ were identified. In soil and rain water measured in August and November, U/sup 238/ , Sr/sup 89/, K/sup 40/, and the other isotopes were found. Atmospheric activity during November 1958 shows a steady increase.
