The reflection of moving charged particles at the magnetic mirrors of a pyrotron-type device is much improved by exciting the particles with an alternating electric field applied perpendicular to the axis of the magnetic field of the pyrotron. Preferably, the frequency of the alternating electric field corresponds to the gyromagnetic frequency of the particles. The velocity of the particles in a plane perpendicular to the axis is thus increased. (NPO)
