IMPROVEMENT RELATING TO NUCLEAR REACTORS IN PARTICULAR TO HETEROGENEOUS GAS COOLED REACTORS
In many gas-cooled reactors, with vertical channels, a charge-discharge machine is provided that can be displaced on a charging floor above the top of the reactor and can be brought into alignment with the different charging holes in this floor. The fuel element removed from such a reactor is stored in an annular rotatable magazine, which is then discharged from the machine together with the fuel elements as a unit. The machine is filled with a gaseous coolant. In order to avoid too high gas losses from the machine during the discharge of the magazine, the space enclosed by the machine is divided into two parts, an upper part enclosing the hoisting and handling means and a lower part enclosing the magazine. These parts can be separated from each other in a gas-tight manner by closure of the dividing element, so that during the discharge of the magazine only the gas enclosed by the lower part of the space is lost.
