RADIATION EFFECTS ON FUELED BeO

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4804084
Irradiation effects studies were made on BeO containing fine dispersions of UO/sub 2/ and UO/sub 2/--ThO/sub 2/. The dimensional stability and fission gas release were measured after irradiations of up to 2200 deg F aad 97,000 Mwd/ MTU. The largest dimensional increases occurred in those samples containing UO/ sub 2/, and averaged 2%. The samples with UO/sub 2/-ThO/sub 2/ as the dispersed fuel increased dimensionally about 0.5%. The fission gas release from both type fuels was small, less than 0.3% based on krypton-85. (auth)
