SEPARATION OF Cs$sup 137$ AND Sr$sup 90$ FROM OLD FISSION PRODUCTS BY ELECTROPHORESIS. I. INVESTIGATION ON ELECTROLYTES

Journal Article · · Energia nucleare (Milan)
OSTI ID:4803857
The separation of Cs/sup 137/ and Sr/sup 90/ from each other and from old fission products (containing Ce/sup 144/, Zr/sup 95/ Nb/sup 95/, Ru/sup 106/, and rare earths) by electrophoresis is described. An electric field of about 25 v/cm is applied to the electrophoretic paper strips, and migration times of 60 to 90 min are employed. Citrate, HCl, ammonium acetate, and acetic acid electrolytes are compared, and it is found that 0.2N acetic acid gives the most efficient separation. (T.F.H.)
