S>A description and ssfeguard evaluation is presented of an open pool research and test reactor rated at 1 Mw. The reactor is light water moderated and cooled, graphlte reflected, and heterogeneously fueled with 3.8 kg of 90% enriched U/sup 235/. The core is supported by a suspension frame in an open pool. The major experimental facilities converge toward the core and afford ample opportunity for the simuitaneous performance of a number of different experiments. The principle reactor design characteristics and the experimental facilities are summarized. (B.O.G.)
