Calculations show that the decrease of the fraction of energy imparted to a pi meson with increasing primary particle energy is not consistent with experimental data on the altitude dependence of extensive air showers. lt is also shown that the number of nuclear-active particles in extensive air showers strongly depends on the fraction of baryons among the secondary particles produced in an elementary nuclear interaction event.
