MEASUREMENT OF PREFERRED ORIENTATION OF THIN-WALLED ZIRCALOY-2 TUBES

X-ray diffraction procedures were established for the routine measurement of preferred orientation of zirconium and Zircaloy-2. The inverse pole figure technique was used for interpretation of the x-ray data. When the method was applied to specimens of thin-walled Zircaloy-2 tubing differences in preferred orientation were revealed that were sufficient to explain anisotropic deformation characteristics that were previously observed in the tubing.
