A STUDY OF PREFERRED ORIENTATION IN EXTRUDED ZIRCALOY-2 PRESSURE TUBES
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:4068621
The preferred orientation present in large-diameter extruded Zircaloy-2 pressure tubes and, for comparison, in a relatively thick-walled tube, was investigated. The most consistent feature observed for the pressure tubes is the occurrence of the basal planes parallel to the working direction. Textures of (1 0 1 0) and (1 12 0) types, as well as randomness about the transverse direction are found. The thick-walled extruded tube also exhibits a basal-plane texture. An attempt is made to explain the higher transverse yield strength as compared with the longitudinal yield strength in terms of the preferred orientation present. This treatment suggests that the preferred slip system at room temperature is of the form (1 0 1 0)STA12 10!. (auth)
