Journal Article · · J. Brit. Nuclear Energy Soc.
OSTI ID:4802344

The technology used in developing reactor fuel elements of plutonium is summarized and reviewed. lnformation is presented on the fabrication, canning, irradiation behavior, safe handling, physical properties, economics, uses, crystal structure, metallurgy, metallic phases, reprocessing, and future developments of plutonium fuels. The types of fuels discussed include metallic alloy systems, ceramic fuels (carbide and oxide types), dispersion fuels (metallic, cermet, and ceramic systems), and impregnated fuels. The bibliography contains over 140 references. (N.W.R.)
