THE NUCLEAR PROPERTIES OF RHENIUM. Ninth Quarterly Technical Progress Report, December 8, 1961-March 8, 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4801950

The nuclear reactions Re/sup 185/(n p)W/sup 185/ Re/sup 187/ (n,p)W/sup 187, Re/sup 185 (n, alpha ) Ta /sup 182/, Re/sup 187/(n, alpha )Ta/sup 184/, Re/ sup 185/(n,2n)Re/sup 184/ and Re/sup 187(n,2n)Re/sup 186 with 14-Mev neutrons are discussed theoretically. It appears that the (n, alpha ) reactions are not possible. The (n,p) reactions are possible but not very probable. The (n,2n) reactions have the largest cross sections of any of these reactions. The Re/sup 187(n,2N)Re/sup 18 6 reactions cross section was calculated to be 2.3 barns com- pared to a preliminary experimental value of 2.49 plus or minus 50% barns. (auth)
