ON THE REACTION Pt(n,/cap alpha/)Os

Journal Article · · Proc. Phys. Soc. (London)
BS>The reaction Pt(n, alpha )Os was investigated by a nuclear emulsion technique, using the thermal neutron flux of the Penn. State Univ. reactor. A semi-empirical range-energy relationship was developed for alpha particles in platinum and was used for the data evaluation. Two groups of alpha particles were observed with certainty, corresponding to Q-values 6.9 plus or minus 0.3 and 8.5 plus or minus 0.3 Mev, and were identified with reactions Pt/sup 194/ (n, alpha )Os/sup 191/ and Pt/sup 195/ (n, alpha )Os/sup 192 respectively. A probable group of alpha particles corresponding to Q-value 12.1 plus or minus 0.3 was associated with the reaction Pt/sup 193/(n, alpha )Os/sup 190/. (auth)
