For presentation at the Fourteenth Joint U.S.-Canadian Sheath Program Meeting, Savannah River Plant, Nov. 7 and The 19-element rod for NRU is an alternative design to the present flat rod type. Experimental cores were fabricated by hot rolling and extrusion in the gamma phase. The cores are extrusion clad with Al to a thickness of 0.025 in. Spiral fins are extruded integral with the cladding for locating the element and helping to promote mixing of the coolant. Spacers are located in the flow tube to position the elements. Development work on the rod assembly is still in progress. (auth)
