THE EFFECT OF CYSTEINE ON THE RADIOINDUCED MODIFICATIONS OF THE ADENINE- NUCLEOTIDE CONTENT IN VARIOUS ORGANS OF THE RAT (in German)

Journal Article · · Strahlentherapie (West Germany)
OSTI ID:4801073

It is shown that the application of cysteine before irradiation prevents radiation induced changes completely in the liver, partly in the spleen and the thymus. In spleen and thymus, however, there is a faster normalization of the values than in unprotected animals. From this it is concluded that the inhibition of oxidative phosphorylization can be prevented by the application of cysteine. The changes of adenine-nucleotide content of spleen and thymus, especially the ATP loss, are partly explained by the occurrence of cell death. As is well-known, these morphological changes, which can be determlned early, eannot be influenced by protective SH substances. (auth)
