ANALYTICAL METHOD FOR THE TITRIMETRIC DETERMINATION OF PLUTONIUM (CHROMOUS REDUCTION-CERIC SULPHATE TITRATION)
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:4801009
Following the removal of nitric acid, Pu is reduced to the trivalent state with an excess of chromous chloride. The excess of chromous salt ns oxidized with air, and the Pu is titrated to the tetravalent form with the standard ceric sulfate. The titration end point is obtained potentiometrically. The method has a bias of about +0.7%. The precision (3 x sigma) is plus or minus 1.23%. The method may be used for determinations of 20 to 50 mg of pu in any volume of sample takeu. If Fe is present a correction must be applied to the result. (auth)
