E. coli, strain 83-24 was grown in a medium containing C/sup 14/-labeled glucose (5 mc). The culture medium was passed through charcoal-celite and ion exchange columns, to give a yield of 885 mg of C/sup 14/-shikimic acid. The product had a specific radioactivity of 29.000 ipm/mg, or about 0.3 mc/g. In addition, C/sup 14/-phosphoshikimic acid was isolated from the culture medium, by the same procedure, in a yield of about 300 mg. (auth)
