A hoist is designed for lowering an ion chamber from a branch pipe in a reactor pressure vessel into the core for neutron flux measurements. The hoist comprises a tubular housing, a winding drum disposed therein, and pully and guide means for winding or unwinding the cable on or from the drum. The drum is arranged with its axis parallel to that of the housing so that the housing is compact and can be accomodated in a sandpipe. (D.L.C.)
