STRONG FOCUSSING (A NEW SOVIET SYNCHROTRON) (in Russian)

The design and performance of a strong-focusing synchrotron is described, and the basic parameters of the installation are given: the maximum accelerated proton energy (kinetic) up to 7 Bev, injection energy to 4 Mev, 8 x 11 aperture, magnet system up to 3800 tons with 112 sections. The maximum capacity is 27 mv at 1.5 sec acceleration and 10 cycles per minute. The projected pulse intensity is 10/sup 9/ to 10/sup 10/. Acceleration is achieved in 7 rotation-frequency harmonics with 11 accelerationfrequency variations. (R.V.J.)
