YOUNG'S MODULUS OF HOT-WORKED PYROLYTIC GRAPHITE

Journal Article · · Nature
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1038/1931066b0· OSTI ID:4799689
Data are presented on the room-temperature Young's modulus of pyrolytic graphite in the direction of the basal planes after various amounts of hot working. Engineering stress-strain curves are given for both as-deposited and hot-worked specimens. Hot working is observed to increase greatly the modulus, e.g., from 2.5 x 10/sup 6/ for no hot working to 81.2 x 10/sup 6/ lb/in./.sup 2/ for 16% hot-work elongation at 2750 deg . (D.L.C.)
