RADIATION SHIELDING AGAINST FALLOUT

Journal Article · · Nucleonics (U.S.) Ceased publication
OSTI ID:4799513
>Data are presented which should be useful in evaluating the protection offered by various structures against gamma radiation emitted by early fallout from nuclear weapons and deposited on the ground. A % dose vs time graph is given for 11 energy intervals covering the range 0.29 to 3.7 Mev. The decay of fallout gamma radiation and dose rate above infinite-plane sources are discussed. The three basic configurations of protective structures are described. Mass thicknesses in lb/ft/sup 2/ are tabulated for nominal thicknesses of structural materials. Buildup factors for radiation scattered in the medium are discussed and tabulated. (D.L.C.)
