In a reactor means are provided for passing organic liquid coolant through different parts of the core in two coolant paths so that, when the reactor is in operation, most of the organic coolant passes through a flrst coolant path to remove the greater part of the heat generated in the core, while the remainder of the coolant passes through the second coolant path to emerge from the core at a higher temperature than the coolant emerging from the core in the first coolant path. The associated reactor installation comprises a heat exchanger with evaporator and superheater sections, the evaporator being connected in a circuit including the first coolant path so that coolant in this path passes from the reactor core to the evaporator. The superheater is connected in a further circuit including the second coolant path so that coolant in this path passes from the reactor core to the superheater. The coolant emerging from the superheater joins via a flow valve the coolant coming from the first path before the latter enters the evaporator. This flow valve is used to control the coolant temperature in the second path. (NPO)
