MEASUREMENTS ON ELECTRON CAPTURE BRANCHING RATIOS IN THE DECAY OF THE NUCLIDES $sup 54$Mn, $sup 65$Zn, AND $sup 57$Co.

Journal Article · · Physica
The K capture fraction of a nuclide decaying by electron capture to an excited state can be determined by measuring coincidences between gamma quanta de- exciting this level and x radiation and/or Auger electrons following the K- capture process. By using a double proportional counter with an internal source x quanta and Auger electrons can be detected with nearly 100% efficiency. K capture fractions, PK, are measured in the decay of Zn/sup 65/ and Mn/sup 54/, resulting in values of P/sub K/ of 87.5 plus or minus 0.6 and 90.2 plus or minus 0.6% respectively. With summation measurements in the proportional counter the PK of Co/sup 57/ is determined as 87 plus or minus 4%. (auth)
