The following angular correlations in the decay of Hf/sup 180m/ were measured: for the 215 kev-93 kev gamma - gamma cascade, W( THETA ) = 1 + (0.093 plus or minus 0.007)P/sub 2/ + (0.014 plus or minus 0.009)P/sub 4/; for the 332 kev-215 kev gamma - gamma cascade, W( THETA ) = 1 + (0.090 plus or minus 0.010)P/sub 2/ + (0.006 plus or minus 0.010)P/sub 4/; and for the 501 kev332 kev gamma - gamma cascade, W( THETA ) = 1 + (0.004 plus or minus 0.007)P/sub 2/(0.002 plus or minus 0.012)P/sub 4/. Liquid sources of HfF/sub 4/ dissolved in concentrated HF were used for these experiments. The angular correlation of the 215 kev-93 kev cascade was found to be slightly attenuated by internal fields. A measurement of the differential angular correlation for different delays gave lambda /sub 2/ = (0.073 plus or minus 0.036) x 100 sec/sup -1/ assuming A/sub 2/ (t) = A/sub 2/(0) x e/sup - lambda .sub 2/t/. The above correlation functions agree with the interpretation of the low lying states of Hf/sup 180/ as a (0/sup +/, 2/sup +/, 4/sup +/, 6/sup +/) rotaional band. The 501 kev-332 kev angular correlation shows that the multipolarity of the 501 kev gamma transition is a mixture of (3.5 plus or minus 0.5)% M2 and (96.5 plus or minus 0.5)% E3. The rotation of angular correlations in a strong external magnetic field was observed and the gyromagnetic ratios of the 2/sup +/ and the 4/sup +/ rotational states were determined as g/sub R/(2/sup +/ level) = +0.371 plus or minus 0.032 and g/ sub R/(4/sup +/ level) = +0.5 plus or minus 0.1.
