GAMMA-GAMMA ANGULAR CORRELATIONS IN Re$sup 18$$sup 7$
Angular correlation measurements were made on the 72134 kev and 552-134 kev gamma-ray cascades in Re/sup 187/ following the decay of 24 h W /sup 187/. The observed correlation functions are W( theta ) = (1 plus or minus 0.004) - (0.047 plus or minus 0.024)P/sub 2/(cos theta ) + (0.004 plus or minus 0.041)P/sub 4/(cos theta ) and W( theta ) = (1 plus or minus 0.006) -- (0.034 plus or minus 0.017)P/sub 2/(cos theta ) -- (0.007 plus or minus 0.030)P/sub 4/ (cos theta ), respectively, for the two cascades. The results are consistent with the spin values 9/2 and 5/2 for the excited energy levels at 206 and 686 kev, respectively. The above correlation functions are considerably different from those reported by Behrend and Neuert for the 72-134 kev cascade and by Arns and Wiedenbeck for the 552-134 kev cascade. (auth)
