A restraint garter is designed for stabilizing the cores in graphite- moderated, gas-cooled reactors. The garter includes stays for application to the respective sides of the core, balance beams for connecting the ends of the stays to form a ring, a ring of linkwork encircling the stays, and a series of bellows connected therein. When the coolant is pressurized, the differential pressure causes the bellows to urge the stays against the sides of the core and thus counteract the coolant pressure in the core channels. (D.L.C.)
