A gas-cooled reactor is designed for removal of fission products from the coolant. In the reactor, part of the coolant is diverted from the cooling ducts into the fuel channels to sweep out the fission products, and the contaminated gas rs fed to a purifier and thence back to the coolant circuit. A ball valve may be provided in each fuel channel for adjusting the fraction of the coolant diverted into the channels. (D.L.C.)
