A sampling device is designed for sampling radioactive liqulds at random depths in storage vessels. The device comprises a body member with an evacuated elastomercapped bottle mounted on a movable carrier member and means for bringing the bottle cap into puncturing contact with a hypodermic needle, whereby liquid is lntroduced into the bottle. The device is lowered by rope into a tank of radioactive liquid and a sample taken at the desired depth by a sharp pull on the rope. (D.L.C.)
