Recommendations are given for the calibration and standardization of I/ sup 131/ uptake by the thyroid gland. Comments are given to show the reasoning behind some of the points made. The recommendations are primarily for the 24 hr uptake determination, but significant factors to be observed when the uptake measurement is conducted earlier are also noted. The use of I/sup 132/ for uptake measurements was also considered, but the recommendations set forth were drawn up primarily for work with I/sup 131/. (P.C.H.)
