IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO CLOSURE MEANS FOR TUBES AND THE LIKE

A closure for a tube has a tubular passage comprising a tubular closure body arranged for insertion in said passage and adapted to provide an annular space between said body and the wall of said passage. This body carries a plurality of expansible rings adapted to engage said passage wall in order to seal said annular space. Said body has a head with a rod which may slide axially in this head and which is fixed at one end of it to a concave radially expansible spring metal disc which carries a soft metal sealing element overlying the periphery of the disc. The rod in the head is secured against rotation by key and keyway, while its axial displacement is controlled by the rotation of a nut screwed on the other end of the rod, said nut being accessible from the outside through the tubular closure body. By the axial displacement of the rod, the periphery of the disc is pressed against the front of the closure body's head, which effects the radial expansion of the concave disc, so that its periphery edge is pressed against the inner wall of the tube. In the case of failing of the sealing of the disc, the said expansible rings, as far as possible, will divsde the pressure drop in the annular space equally between them. The annular space is connected with a monitoring tube for detecting the defect closure. (NPO)
