INFLUENCE OF X-IRRADIATION ON THE FUNCTION OF THE GASTRO-INTESTINAL TRACT IN MICE. I. WHOLE BODY X-IRRADIATION

Following whole-body x irradiation of 300 r, 600 r, 1000 r, 3000 r, and 30000 r, the transit time of barium metal through the gastro-intestinal tract was observed. At 300 r, no change was seen. At 600 r, immediately after x irradiation, the transit time was accelerated 1 or 3 days after it; the transit time was slow and it continued for 1 or 2 days and then at 3 days after irradiation, it became very much slower and the animals died: at 3000 r the state was similar to that of 1000 r; at 30000 r, the transit time became markedly slow and the animals died within 24 hr.
