INFLUENCE OF X-IRRADIATION ON THE FUNCTION OF THE GASTRO-INTESTINAL TRACT IN MICE. III. X-IRRADIATION OF THE ABDOMEN
At 300 r, no change was noted. At 600 r, 1 to 3 hr after x irradiation, the transit time was accelerated, 1 to 3 days later the transit time became slightly slower and 5 days later it returned to normal. At 1000 r, immediately after irradiation the transit time became markedly slower and 1 day later a moderate recovery was noted; 5 days after the irradiation it returned to normal, and remained so until death. At 3000 r, immediately after irradiation the transit time became markedly slower and 1 to 2 days later it recovered considerably. Three days after the irradiation it became markedly slow and the animals died. At 30000 r, the transit time became markedly slow and within 24 hr the animals died. (Abstr.
