Gold seeds (0.8 x 2.5 mm) were implanted in the hypothalamus by injection through the ear. The 5-day mortality of animals implanted with inactive Au was ~20% compared with ~50% for Au/sup 198/. However, 10 to 30% of animals implanted with 5 to 10 mc doses of Au/sup 198/ survived 50 to 100 days or longer, depending on the dose. (H.H.D.)
