DISTRIBUTION OF Co$sup 60$ AND OF SOME RADIO ISOTOPE FISSION PRODUCTS AMONG THE COMPONENTS OF EXPERIMENTAL RESERVOIRS (in Russian)

Observations of the distribution of Co/sup 60/, Cs/sup 137/, Ru /sup 106/ , Sr/sup 90/, and mixed beta - and gamma -emitting fission fragment in open reservoirs showed a rather strong retention of Sr/sup 90/ by the water with considerably lesser retention by silt, an extremely high concentration of C0/sup 60/ in the marine plants (elodia and urut), and a rather high absorption of Cs/ sup 137/ by sand. The distribution of Ru/sup 106/ was close to that of Co/sup 60/ and the mixed fission fragment distribution was similar to that of Sr/sup 90/. The data indicate the feasibility of utilizing reservoirs for storing liquid waste; containing radioelements (except Sr/sup 90/) (R.V.J.)
