SPECTROCHEMICAL DETERMINATION OF Sm, Eu, Gd, AND Dy IN REACTOR GRAPHITE (in German)

Journal Article · · Nukleonik (West Germany) Discontinued with vol. 12
OSTI ID:4795136
A spectrochemical method for the detection of Sm, Eu, Gd, and Dy in the concentration range from 10/sup -6/ to 10/sup -7% was worked out. The graphite samples were ashed at 800 deg C and the rare earths in the ashes were enriched with Tm as trace carrier and internal standard. The excitation of the spectra took place in a buffered'' carbon arc of 15 amp. In reference to 100 g graphite samples, the following limits of detection were obtained: Sm, 8.5 x 10/sup -8%; Eu, 4.0 x 10/sup -8%; Gd, 8.5 x 10/sup -8%; and Dy, 7.0 x 10/sup -8/%. The relative accuracy is plus or minus 20%. The agreement of the microscopic effective cross seciion of graphite calculated from the analytical values with the neutron absorption measurements in a pile oscillator is satisfactory. (tr- auth)
