HISTOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF TESTES IN LOCALLY AND WHOLE BODY IRRADIATED INFANTILE RATS

Histological changes of testes in locally and whole-body irradiated infantile rats untreated and treated with cysteamine are studied. The results show that the testes in fertile males have normal structure. However, in sterile animals the testes are destroyed in most cases. Giant cells in sterile and in some fertile animals are observed depending on whether they are protected or not. Giant cells are found in a higher percentage (50%) in locally irradiated rats than in whole-body irradiated rats (25%). (auth)
