MEASUREMENT OF DELAY TIME IN COAXIAL CABLES BY PULSE TECHNIQUE

Journal Article · · IRE Trans. on Nuclear Sci. NS-9
OSTI ID:4793553
A pulse generator having a high repetition rate and rise time is used to measure the delay per ft in coaxial cables. The pulses are introduced into one end of the cable through a resistor mixing pad, and the cable is efficiently shorted. The pulse repetition rate is varied until the production of a given pulse coincides with the return of the reflection of the previous pulse. The null of the two signals is not completely unambiguous because of degradation of the returning pulse. The accuracy of the method, however, is about 0.3%. (T.F.H.)
