PROGRESS REPORT ON IMAGE INTENSIFIER

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4793165
Progress is reported in the development of double-stage visible light image intensifiers. The coupling member consists in essence of a spherically curved thin glass plate carrying on its convex side settled cathodo-luminescent phosphor and on its concave side an S-11 photocathode. The preparation of the coupling member is described. Improvements were made in the resolution of settled cathodoluminescent phosphor screens. Several envelopes for double-stage image intensifiers were assembled. One double-stage tube was processed and tested. Photographs of the assembly are included and test results are tabulated. The image on the output of the double-stage image intensifier obtained by projecting a standard test slide on the curved photocathode input produced an image that was asymmetrically distorted to some extent.
