A pressure vessel especially for nuclear reactors comprises two portions separable from each other and fixed together by a mechanical connection which is not fluid tight. This connection is enclosed by a sheet having the general shape of a torus cornecting in a tlght manner the said two portions of the vessel. Suitably, the said mechanical connection is performed by two series of plates pressed against the outer and the inner surface of the parts of the vessel respectively in the proxi ity of their edges. Two plates situated oppositely on the inner and outer wall respectively are connected together by bolts passing throungh the wall extremities of the two vessel portions. (NPO)
