lambda$sup 0$-K$sup 0$ PRODUCTION BY PIONS ON PROTONS

In the Brookhaven 20-in. hydrogen bubble chamber, p- pi /sup -/ irteractions at 775, 791, 829, 871 Mev were observed in the form pi /sup -/ + p yields LAMBDA /sup 0/ + K/sup 0/, in which LAMBDA /sup 0/ yields pi /sup - / + p and K/sup 0/ yields pi /sup -/ + pi /sup +/. Cross sections, angular distributions, and polarizations of LAMBDA /sup 0/ as a function of energy were determined. Results agreed with previous data. The partial-wave amplitudes exhibit an energy behavior such that the d-wave amplitude became finite and significant at 829 Mev but was consistent with zero at 871 Mev. A AK resonance with mass approximately 1650 Mev was suggested. (L.N.N.)
