INTRAOSSEOUS INTRODUCTION OF HOMOLOGOUS BONE MARROW TO LETHALLY IRRADIATED RATS (in Russian)

Approximateiy 50% of rats irradiated with a minimum lethal dose of roentgen and gamma rays may be cured from radiation sickness if they undergo intraosseous transplantation of homologous bone marrow. The efficacy of the intraosseous method of administration is almost similar to the effectiveness of the intravenous method of bone marrow introduction. The curative effect of homotransplantation in rats is observed with irradiation doses not exceeding the absolute lethal dose more than 100 r. In the intraosseous method of introduction the operative trauma causes an activation of the endosteum and flares up the endosteal osteogenesis. This does not prevent the take and differentiation of the hematopoietic tissue in the medullary cavity at the site of introduction. The hematopoietic cells introduced intraosseously become distributed, apparently, in the same manner as in their intravenous administration. (auth)
