A device for loading and unloading a reactor with fuel slugs is designed which includes a latching mechanism. The mechanism comprises a hollow body carrying latching fingers which normally project from the body so as to engage with a groove in a reactor channel wall. Means are provided for locking and releasing the latching fingers. (D.L.C.)
