MUTATION RATES AT SPECIFIC LOCI IN DROSOPHILA MELANOGASTER. Final Report, November 1, 1960 through October 31, 1961

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4791989
Radiation effects on mutations in male germ cells of Drosophila melanogaster were studied for the purpose of relating the brood pattern to the spatial pattern of spermatogenesis. The procedure of mating individual males successively to 7 to 10 females (per mating) on days 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, and 14 after radiation and the initial mating were found to be the most satisfactory. The critical period, excessive sterility, occurred in the third brood (6 to 8 days following radiation). The brood patterns and mutations did not differ significantly. (P.C.H.)
