NUCLEAR ENERGY LEVEL SCHEMES AND SYSTEMATICS IN THE HEAVY RARE-EARTH REGION

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:4791730
A study is made of the nuclear energy level systematics in the strongiy deformed region of the heavy rare-earth elements. Twenty-nine radionuclides in this region are studied by gamma scintillation spectrometry and by gamma-gamma coincidence techniques, following their production by the irradiation of the stable enriched isotopes of erbium and ytterbium with 8-Mev protons, 17- and 24Mev alpha partic1es, and thermal neutrons. Information is reported concerning the energy level structure of Er/sup 162/, Er/sup 164/, Er/sup 165/, Er/sup 166/, Er/sup 168/, Tm/sup 165/, Tm/sup 167/, Yb /sub 168/, Yb/sub 168/, Yb/sup 169/, Yb/ sup 170/, Yb/sup 171/, Yb/sup 172/, Yb/sup 173/, and Yb/sup 174/. Energy level schemes are constructed. (Dissertation Abstr., 22: No. 7, 1982.)
