FLUORINATED HALOGENATED DIKETONES AND THEIR USE AS CHELATING AGENTS

Certain classes of fluorinated iketones were discovered which form metal chelates of high solubility in organic solvents. These beta -diketones have the formula R- CO- CH/sub 2/- CO- Rt, where R is a brominated and/or chlorinated alkyl, cycloaliphatic, or aryl radical, and Rt is a polyfluorinated alkyl or cycloaliphatic radical with 3 to 6 substituent fluorine atoms. These beta -diketones may be prepared by the Claisen condensation, and a procedure is given for the synthesis of l-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-4,4,4trifluoro-l,3-butanedione. (D. L. C.)
