It is shown that astatine can be extracted from nitric acid solutions by diisopropyl ether following oxidation at 25 deg C, from 12 M HNO/sub 3/ at 100 deg C, and from nitric, sulfuric, and hydrochloric acid solutions after Ce/sup 4+/ oxidation at 100 deg C. In contrast to astatine the microquantities of I/sup 131/ (without carrier) do not separate from strong mineral acids following Ce/sup 4+/ oxidation. (R.V.J.)
